Report: Warriors set to hire controversial recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan

HE recruitment manager deregistered by the NRL for financial dealings with notorious punter and former brothel owner Eddie Hayson is set to be appointed by the Warriors, according to a Fairfax Media report.

Stood down by the Roosters in August 2016, Peter O’Sullivan has been serving an indefinite ban by the NRL but the suspension is set to be lifted to allow him to continue his career in New Zealand.

The O’Sullivan appointment will be a huge coup for a club that has struggled to identify and keep its best talent over the years with Australian clubs often skimming the cream off the top of New Zealand’s rich nursery of talent.

O’Sullivan has long been one of the game’s best talent spotters, with Latrell Mitchell and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck among his most recent discoveries in a list that also includes Billy Slater, Greg Inglis and Israel Folau.

Despite his former relationship with Hayson, it has recently become clear that the NRL was prepared to lift the ban, with several clubs expressing interest in his services.

According to reports, Manly are the club that most recently met with the recruitment genius, with CEO Lyall Gorman sitting down with him earlier this month.

However, the Warriors’ determination to stop the bleeding and keep their best young players appears to have persuaded O’Sullivan to make the move across the ditch.

Just last month Warriors general manager of football Brian Smith said the club would go all out to stop the Australian raids.

“Our choice is either leave the door open for the foxes to come in and take the hens, or we can fight back and do something about it,” Smith said.

“About 30 players are leaving and have been leaving in each of the past few seasons, since these clubs have been raiding New Zealand for 15-year-olds.

“That’s the reality. Are they getting all the best ones?

“They probably had pretty much open slather at it, so they should have been able to pick the best.”

Why would the NRL suddenly lift the ban that has been keeping him from working at the roosters to suddenly allow him to work for the warriors?

Was thinking the same thing, we should do a deal where he agrees to sign with the warriors, but changes his mind and comes back to us once he is re-instated
