It's going to take a perfect performance and plenty of luck to beat a 15-man Soufffffs team in the semis. The ideal scenario is we finish one and two and either Melbourne or Manly knocks them out in the prelim.

At least if we got to play Manly you would know the players would decide it because they seem to cop this crap off the officials as badly as we do (although admittedly they haven't been reamed by them for nigh on 10 years now).
I know the game you are referring to. We were down 30-18 and ended up winning. I must say I almost felt sorry for Mick Ennis the other night when both he and Greg Bird spoke to the refs and told them that they are just trying to compete and they are impeding the game by not letting it flow. But as another poster pointed out, Trent said the other night he doesn't want us ending up like that during a game because the players' focus should not be to obsess over penalty counts. That's how Canterbury ended up losing the other night because their captain was turning himself inside out over penalties. Sometimes you do need to just suck it up and get on with it. Trent says it's about winning games, not penalty counts, and sometimes as fans we do lose sight of this. I want us to just steamroll everyone in our path, DESPITE penalty counts..That would make a grand final victory even better..We have a very special talented classy team who are my true pride of the league at the moment. Don't let the refs spoil our enjoyment over the next couple of months..

Lol, Toovey is a spoilt brat and Matia's attempted try clearly wasn't grounded, I couldn't give a toss about Toovey or Manly, they can whinge and whine all they want, they deserved what they got.

I could never bring myself to feel sorry for Mick Ennis. By all reports a champion bloke off the field, but an absolute tosser on it. If I reffing that game on Monday night he would have spent time in the bin for the way he was questioning the referees

Did you see the penalty count tonight? And the irrelevant square ups at the end?

But more than that, did you see where Souffs got their penalties? It was piggy back after piggy back after piggy back. All out of their own half.

And how about the Inglis dive in the second half? If that's JWH it's play on. But Inglis? On report and a penalty.

If we are to defeat Souffs AND the refereeing freight train that is about to hit us then it will surely be the greatest Premiership achievement in our history.

Feel free to call me a conspiracy theorist, but I know what I saw tonight.

Inglis was back. Sutton was back. And the refs LOVED it. They hopped aboard the Souff Sydney Piggy Backs freight train.

And it'll take something special to stop it. But I believe we can!
He is a very unlikable character that Inglis.

It was poor acting but good enough for the officials to come to his rescue yet again.

Shows the gulf in footy ethics between Souths and us after reading of Trents take on milking penalties taking dives etc.

Certainly no Manly fan but If Toovey gets fined then I think a few other clubs may offer to chip in.

Last night was a refereeing farce and should be an embarrassment to the NRL.

The last time I checked we live in a democratic society where we are allowed to have an opinion unless you are a couch and you want to talk about refs.

There is a fairly easy way of fixing this if the NRL doesn't have the Will Chambers' to do something about it and the media can play a positive contribution for a change.

In Supercoach, players are rated by tackles, offloads, metres and the like as I am sure most of you know.

Why not extend this system to refs, correct penalties and calls get 10 points with deductions, correct try awarded 5 points (use of video ref no points) and the like. On the deductions take away points for missed offsides, missed forward passes and the like.

Putting them under the spotlight will improve their performance and provide a true gauge as to who our best refs are.

While I am on my soapbox, if they are serious about protecting players then Jeff Lima should get at least 4 weeks for the dog act on Watmough... disgusting Melbourne habits surfacing.

Sam Burgess, 2 weeks only because there was not a lot of pressure applied to the grip????????? Are you serious? I suggest the nutters who came up with this have a session with Will Chambers applying pressure their acorns (subject to finding said acorns) and then determine what is sufficient pressure.

FFS they should be penalising him on the intent to cause injury not the level of injury caused. CAn you imagine this scenario in a court of law?

"Plaintiff: Yes your Honour, I was 10 times over the legal alcohol limit and was driving at 160 kph in a school zone but I only grazed on child."

" NRL Judge: Well you were bad but at least there was little damage.... your license is suspended for 2 weeks."

There are none so blind as those that don't open their eyes.....

We're as likely to have scrutiny on the performance of Referees as I am having Jessica Gomes behave filthily with Megan Gale while I watch.

That's why I said almost...Yes, Trent made a point of saying this is the type of behaviour from a captain that can bring a team down to a loss as the focus was on penalty counts, not getting on with playing footy..Just read my autosig..sums up our club perfectly at the moment...

You only have to look at the pedigree of that player to see why...Just call them the Melbourne Rabbitohs and be done with it..and that goes for the creepy coach too..

Absolutely. A few melbourne Players and a melbourne coach. Isaac Luke , who almost looks like he should have played for melbourne with his tackling techniques as well.

Maybe you should have watched the game. It was pretty damn obvious to this Manly hater than it was a try.

But its not always about the penalties the refs blow its also about the ones they don't

                          I would have awarded it.
The obvious bias shown towards Souths, in the first half especially, was embarrassing.
The 5 penalties given to Souths for an easy ride out from their own line was obviously a big help to them. Manly were all over the top of them at that stage.
Gus was commenting on how these 5 penalties had really helped them.....stopped himself short of commenting any further & just said that Toovey would have to address the discipline problem that existed with his team.

Anyone that thought the refs did a fair job with this game must have had beer goggles on.

Mate they dominated for 60 min and possession was 50/50 or there about, they bombed their tries and in the end were out muscled and over powered by a fast finishing Souths. I really don't care for either teams prospects or excuses and I dislike both the same, but his team was beaten in the last 20min and they have themselves to blame. As for Matai's try, if you look at the rear camera angle, his arm is between the ball and try line, it's very clear. His other bullshit gripe about targeting Watmough is a joke, there was only one tackle in the game that looked suspicious and he is on report and justifiably so, the guy is a inarticulate turd and a sore loser. And f$$k Souths for those who think I have a soft spot for them, I just don't like the blind and immature hatred that stinks this forum.

matais try was a try all day long!

as for the inglis try i would have liked to have seen the angle that made him look offside again the one that was perpendicular to the play but they only showed that once.... very suspicious

I guess thats the beauty of RL I am totally convinced it was a try.
I agree that $ouff$ did come home strong and had to get themselves a win, but they were given a fair bit of help to keep them in a position to do that.
Being a bit more serious about it, its more than likely the way that $ouff$s play the game that gets them the penalties, but I did see a game where 2 sides where refereed differently last night. Bill Harrigan would have been proud.

I am not sure about targetting whatever, but it was a low bellamyesque action
