When is the last time we genuinely attempted to?It's like saying Donald Trump only gets pussy with a terrible haircut... yeh no shit because he's never had a decent one.
You're talking about a correlation, not a causation. It would be no different to me saying the last 4 premierships have been won by a home grown halves pairing, it just doesn't mean much because it's what both clubs do. We've had Jahrome Hughes & Jamie Soward in our pathways... you can't even argue there hasn't been premiership winning talent to be backed over the years.
What we do know is that good internal pathways are essential to consistent, long term high performance and are more conducive to providing strong levels of depth. It's a bit sad but in the salary cap environment the greatest competitive advantage is who can stockpile the best young talent in the game. Melbourne are the best at it, Penrith have gotten better and we've been pretty good at it in patches but we dropped off post POS.
We've been able to attract some of the best young halves in the game over the last few years, to go and sign a gun over the top of them now would be a terrible message to send to any young talent out there.
Anyway there's many good reasons why we signed Toby Rodwell to a 4yr contract and just signed his older brother. The club are all in on this kid, I can't see us signing Dylan Brown.
He can have a blinder but he only had a few good games a year in him
not for the money he will command on the open market
we have our creative running half with walker
let sandon smith, Elliot and rodwell be the other halves option
Elliot is the long term #6 IMO
The kid has it
Sandon played all his juniors at #1 and could develop there long term, potentially
Haven't seen enough of Rodwell

I do genuinely think he is overrated, but I wouldn't be against the signing for the right price. That being said, with all the young-gun halves on our books, you would probably expect one of them to kick on which would be the ideal situation.
Last I heard was that Arthur was probably going to coach the Perth team, and people expected him to target Brown.
Do you like winning premierships? Who was the last home grown 6 to win us a comp? Premierships are there to be bought. Every club is attempting to buy one. It’s the way today. Business.

I think he would be a very good signing and there's no doubt we could afford him but if we're serious about developing our own talent then we need to show a little more patience. Fittler, Anasta, Carney, Maloney, Keary... It's about time we started developing some 5/8's of our own.

It’s hard to say without knowing the true potential of our development list but Brown is a genuine strike player and would look outstanding next to Walker in RWB.
A 2026 spine of; Teddy, Brown, Walker, Robson is incredibly strong and could challenge for a premiership.

Not at a million a year.
He is likely to chase a club that can bring him a premiership and also keep his pay close to the million a season.
he fails to find that he will active his extension at the eels.
There will be a few clubs happy to pay overs for him but not a team that is in contention for a premiership.
Ryles was always going have players testing the market once he gave the king the door.
Brown is a good running half but at a million a year would put the cap out of whack. Having 3 players on that amount would leave nothing for the forward. It will be interesting to see how our recruitment goes this year. 2024 we seemed to be a bit all over the place.
