Reported today we were in talks to bring him back - but his management was asking for $500k.
Right call in not proceeding, was worth it in his prime but at 32 with bad knees that is an insane asking price

Why we’re looking at forwards is beyond me. This is one area that we’re stacked in. Let the kids develop.

      Bad move imo!

Nice bloke and always gives 100% however in the plodder part of his career. Maybe for depth if he's cheap cheap. $200k max

There's a reason we were happy to let him move on a couple of years ago, his effectiveness was already waning. His knees won't have improved (I think the Dogs knocked him back on that basis?), so I can't see how he would offer more than the long term benefit of giving Wong & the Va'a boys game time. Unless he is going to replace Napa and mentor the next crop of forwards in NSW Cup.

SST would not be worth $500k having struggled with fitness and form and some off-field issues during his stint in the ESL.

Manly pulled out recently, and the Dogs signed him in the offseason in 2023, but he failed the medical (foot injury); then they tried to sign him again after he was sacked by the Catalan Dragons; the 2024 midseason transfer window had closed.

I did read he had been training with the Bulldogs when he came back from France, with the Bulldogs monitoring his rehab and training. If all went well, they were to offer him a contract. Maybe the impending Hunt termination, which eventuated, has attracted the dogs focus more.

          22 confirmed for 2025

          Then you have

Dockar-Clay - not mentioned as leaving so may get another year
          Va'a Brothers
          Steep
          Elliot

          That's 26 or 27

Usually only sign 27 or 28 - have a host of players on extended bench/development contracts to fill the void when required

Loved SST but I wouldn't go any higher than 250K

Agree with QLD Chook, given he'd likely play minimal first grade (Probably only during Origin period) I wouldn't go above 250k, he'd be a good NSW Cup veteran for the young players to learn from but 500k is way too much for him.

                Maybe $300k or so
he was one of the best props in the comp! Jwh showed it can be done - other part is although he hasn’t played much recently it might also keep him fresh and younger then his age as he hasn’t been bashed around the last 2 years
remember we have a great pack with Collins, Leniu and May but they could all be out and fatigued come origin time and Whyte may move between 13 and front row so an experienced SST would come in very handy
we need a really good 22 not just 17 players and need to spend some money so I’d be open to it

I think he’s injured pretty often these days.

                    He'd fit in well then.

Up until the Canberra game we had a pretty good run this season.

Looks like Manly have signed him on a train and trial deal, at that price I would have been happy to sign him.
Proves himself and stays fit upgrade his contract, if it doesn't work out we wouldn't have lost much.

It’s time to start showing some faith in our youth. If it doesn’t work this year, they’ll be much better for it in 26.
This approach helped set us up for our run into 18-19 with Manu, Latrell, Rads, Butcher etc

                            Exactly.

There’s not much more these boys can do at cup level.

Let them develop and get exposed to the NRL.
