  • Jarryd Hayne

With Hayne being acquitted, there is a very very slim door which is open for an NRL return in 2025.

Is it worth Robbo and Uncle Nick setting up a meeting?

    Pros

    1. We are very light on talent from next year in the 3/4 line. Hayne could play centre or wing.
    2. We are losing a lot of experience and leadership. Hayne brings that in spades, and I think what he has gone through will bring maturity.
    3. Short on center talent on the market - there isn't much compelling available in the centres on the open market.
    4. High Motivation - Hayne has never won a premiership, and we may be able to facilitate that dream.
    5. He will be cheap. We may be able to get him for under 400k.

    Cons

    1. He is 36. At best we'll get 2 years
    2. He will be injury prone being old.
    3. He may still be a self absorbed c**t
    4. He will bring a media circus

I was happy to see him cleared but I don't think so. Too old.

Interesting list of Pros and cons Steakface but I think honestly the Hayne Plane has left the hanger.

just a bit too old. I can imagine him doing a few good things which make a highlights segment but surely he couldn’t cut it week in week out at a high standard.

Ummmm, how long since he played a game of top grade NRL? 2018?

I really don’t see that Hayne would be a viable option.

Definitely yes if he was 28. He was once a top tier player. $400k a year would be a bargain if he got back to his best.

As it stands it's a no from me. His age and sitting idle for some time would make him more injury prone.

He could potentially make good money playing ESL if the desire is still there.

Yeah based on media footage I don't think he has the fitness to play NRL right now (or the interest?)

Also rightly or wrongly, society has a distinction between 'legally clear' and 'well he still cheated on his wife and put himself in a position of compromise'.

IMO the window for Hayne to play more NRL has well and truely closed.

I'd rather Cronk to replace Keary.

                      No

He played for my Junior Club - The Mighty East Campbelltown Eagles - Met him a few times and seemed a nice enough fellow - The club house had a stack of his paraphernalia hung up - pictures of him as a junior / signed jerseys and what not but when he was convicted and sent to jail they all came down and I doubt very much that they will ever go back up.

By next season Hayne will be 7 years out of the NRL and will be turning 37. His time was well and truly up 5 years ago.

He was one of the most talented and naturally gifted players to ever play the game. Too bad off the field he had the brains of a flea
