Carney Crowned World Player of the Year

Todd Carney’s stunning return to rugby league saw him change a Roosters’ team from being wooden spooner’s in 2009 to grand finalists in 2010, picking up several awards along the way, including Dally M Player of the Year, Provan Summon’s Fans’ Player of the Year and Five-Eighth of the Year and also chosen in the Kangaroos squad. But despite not playing a game for Australia as yet, his biggest award of his life no doubt came after being named World Player of the Year.

The 24-year-old is the third Australian in the awards’ three-year history to be named, coming after Billy Slater’s success in 2008 and Jarryd Hayne’s in 2009.

Shaun Kenny-Dowall also picked up the award for World Centre of the Year, adding to his NZRL Player of the Year accolade.
